Thursday, July 20, 2017 — Copenhagen
I arrive to BLQ Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport and board flight SAS 2684 and take off at 2:30pm for Copenhagen. I land in CPH Copenhagen Airport at 4:30pm. Shin meets me at the airpot, his app lets him know I received my luggage before I have a chace to text. I hop in Shin's car and we go to the sea shore for a bit and walk around and enjoy an ice cream. We stop by the Netto. No cultural visit to Denmark can be complete without a cursory stop at Netto for some supplies including a pack of cigarettes for Shin and some local salt licorices for me. We head north along the water to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. We drive north and visit the Kronborg Slot, but it is closed for the day. The surrounding views are still nice.
Friday, July 21 — Copenhagen
We have breakfast at Shin's place and then head out. We drive to Ramen to Bíiru where I order shoyu ramen through a Japan-style vending machine and a can of Mikkeller session beer. We head off to Cafe Toldboden where gratis rosé wine is offered for sample. We walk along the seashore, passed the Maersk shipping headquarters to the famed Little Mermaid sculpture in honor of Hans Christian AndersenToldboden. Scores of tourists are taking intimate selfies with the small sculpture. In the evening we head out for a night on the town. We take the Metro and start at K Bar. I order the Mekong-ki-tong, with Mekhong whiskey (rum), chili, lemongrass, ginger, coriander, kaffir lime and soda all on the rocks garnished with coriander leaves, aka cilantro. It is a perfect drink. Next we visit Fugu and head to the back garden, which was first planted in 1744. I order a Garden Sour. The mix of gin, egg white, basil and cucumber is perfect and the drink goes down quick. I notice there are many blonde Scandanavians standing around, enjoying the gardena and their drinks as well. We end at Ruby and I order a Jubilee Sour with locally produced Scandinavian aquavit combined with American apple jack, served on the rocks.
Saturday, July 22 — Flying home
After breakfast Shin drives me to Københavns Lufthavn, aka the Copenhagen Airport. I check my bags and visit the Aviator Lounge where they offer a self-service Carlsberg beer tap. The lounge is at 175% capacity and there is no where to sit. I get in line for passport control. The line is long a people are anxious about missing their flight. A lady calls out my flight and I head to the front of the queue with her. I board Norwegian Air Shuttle 7069 and we take off at 2:25pm. We land at 4:15pm. I BART and bus home. What a trip!
