The Shell Map of the Chobe National Park is the second in a series
of maps that cover Botswana Game Reserves in detail. The map is
actually a conglomeration of five different views of the reserve,
each in varying detail. The smallest map covers northern Botswana,
from just south of Maun, over to Nata in the east, and up to the
Namibia-Zimbabwe borders with Botswana. A slightly larger map
shows a view of the entire Chobe National Park, highlighting the
main transit routes through the park. The remaining three maps
are detailed views of prime game spotting areas. All three maps
are highlighted with points of special interest and special markers
at each site reference pictures that are littered generously about
the map. Two of these maps look like they are actual satellite
images with the roads superimposed over the terrain. It is an
interesting effect and greatly aids in identifying your exact
location by judging the proximity to the actual landmarks viewed
on the map. Each segment of road is marked both with the distance
in kilometers and numerical markings that serve as a "road reference".
Each individual map is also generously littered with both pictures
and text descriptions of the park, which include the road reference
number for easy identification. There are many pictures dotted
around the map, each with a letter designation that refers the
visitor to interesting sites throughout the park. There are fewer
roads in Chobe than Moremi, and as a result, the map of Chobe
National Park tends to be more accurate than that of Moremi. On
the reverse side of the map are sections detailing the game reserve's
regulations, history, and general information. A majority of the
reverse side is dedicated to a comprehensive bird, mammal, trees,
and habitats checklist that will help the visitor identify the
living organisms within the reserve. The Shell Map of Chobe National
Park is an excellent guide to navigation through this huge park.
This map makes it nearly impossible to get lost, an will be an
invaluable resource when visiting one of the most beautiful parks
in Africa.
