Malaria Dreams is a first person narrative of the author's 4wd journey from the Central African Republic to Algeria. The book is extremely well written and highly captivating. Stevens has a special humorous insight into the insane problems that confront the African traveler. The author repeatedly finds himself wallowing through inane situations, finding that his western efficiency is a value not widely excepted in Africa. Unfortunately, the book is a simple narrative of a journey from point A to B, and doesn't deeply examine the African psyche or natural beauty of the continent. Otherwise, it is a book that delightfully portrays the mind-numbing difficulty of traveling through Africa. Malaria Dreams is highly recommended.
